The MLS™/ CLAW is a leading multiple listing service (MLS). With over 16,000 agents and brokers, TheMLS.com serves America’s #1 MSA, from Downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Coast Highway. The MLS engaged Agency McKenna to put their consumer website on the map and become the leading destination for property search. Ahead of Zillow, Redfin and other data aggregators, TheMLS.com is the source of accurate and trusted real estate data. However, their consumer site wasn’t keeping up with the rest of the market. They knew it was time for a change.

OUR SOLUTION.
Agency McKenna set out to design a consumer-first, B2C website. Creating an elegant, yet efficient property search experience for consumers. Meeting them where they are as renters, first-time homebuyers and seasoned sellers. As a B2B solution, offering more powerful listing info, mobile-enhanced easily scannable UX design, and a better branded solution for subscribers. The intersection where B2B meets B2C to succeed. We call this B2B2C alignment. TheMLS.com site is growing consumer engagement, offering better property marketing for its subscribers while also creating a “connected hub” for lead gen and client communications. Good UX design is good business.

Through stakeholder interviews, competitive analysis and a deep review of TheMLS.com innovative technology, Agency McKenna redefined the digital strategy for the new consumer website. User requirements aligned with CX best practices allowing TheMLS.com to significantly leap forward. Better navigation, more intuitive information architecture and a new, compelling interface design catapulted them ahead of Zillow, Redfin and others. Afterall, it’s their members’ data that needed a new home to shine. And now it does.

It’s important to know who your target audience is and what their needs are. Agency McKenna developed 10 user personas to drive innovation for the new consumer website. Each persona focused on a unique, immersive experience. Getting them the information they need. Connecting them with a real estate professional. Meeting consumers where they are in their journey. Exceeding their expectations. We had to craft an experience for the armchair casual consumer. And pinpoint a connected client with a communications hub to buy a home or sell their property. For every persona in between, TheMLS.com has become the ultimate resource.

INTUITIVE NAVIGATION
HINGES ON A GREAT SITEMAP.
Like an architect creating an unfolding experience, the new sitemap provides a guide to a website’s structure. It should be easy to find what you’re looking for. And if it’s a great experience, people will return. Agency McKenna defined key pages and navigation structure with both the consumer’s goals in mind, and the marketing objectives of agents and brokers too.

Thoughtful wireframes set the stage for great user experience design. Agency McKenna designed wireframes that showcased better content relationships, page hierarchy, interaction models and overall page structure. Developed as templates to inform all pages in the new website. They draw on technical abilities and indicate innovation needed to stay one step ahead of competing sites. At the end of the day, UX designers and developers equally rely on wireframes to create incredible UX design. It’s easier to see the shared vision, when you have a page blueprint all agree is the best way forward.
